Why medspa marketing is different from spa marketing

A day spa sells relaxation. You sell medical outcomes with a credit card on file, and that changes everything about how patients find and choose you.

They research more. Someone considering Botox or a GLP-1 program reads reviews, compares providers, and searches specific questions for days before booking. They trust differently. A med spa without visible credentials, real before-and-afters, and a physician’s name attached loses to one that has them. And the platforms treat you differently too: Google holds health-adjacent content to stricter standards, and Meta restricts how you can advertise anything involving prescription medication or body transformation.

Most agencies discover these rules on your budget. Marketing that works for a restaurant or a gym quietly underperforms for a med spa, and the monthly report never quite explains why. We only work with local service businesses, and medical spas are our deepest vertical. The rules above are not surprises to us. They are the starting point.

Paid channels stop the day you stop funding them. The line still climbing is the one that compounds.

The full stack

What a full medical spa marketing system includes

One channel is a leak waiting to happen. Here is the stack we build, in the order that usually pays back fastest.

  • Search visibility

When someone in your area searches “lip filler near me” or “medical weight loss,” you are either on the first screen or you are invisible. Our med spa SEO work covers treatment pages, local rankings, and your Google Business Profile. This is the channel that compounds: a page that ranks keeps producing patients without a per-click bill.

  • Paid ads that respect the math

Google Ads for the high-intent searches you do not rank for yet. Meta for awareness and offers, within their health advertising rules. Every campaign gets tracked to booked appointments, not clicks, so you always know your cost per patient by channel. When a channel’s math stops working, we say so and move the budget.

  • Reviews and reputation

Patients read reviews like medical records. We build review generation into your post-visit flow so happy patients actually leave them, and we monitor response quality because your replies are marketing too. Review velocity is also a ranking signal for the map results, which makes this the rare tactic that converts and ranks at the same time.

  • A website that books

Traffic is rented until your site converts it. We rebuild money pages with the decision path a patient actually follows: proof, pricing signals, provider credentials, and a booking button that is never more than one scroll away. Click-to-call on mobile, online booking for the after-hours researcher.

  • Follow-up that recovers lost revenue

Most med spas lose more revenue after the click than before it. Missed calls, unanswered form fills, no-shows, patients who came once and never rebooked. This is why we built Medspa OS, our growth platform for aesthetic practices. Speed-to-lead follow-up, appointment reminders, rebooking campaigns. Marketing fills the funnel; the system keeps it from leaking.

Do it yourself

Seven med spa marketing strategies that actually work

If you are not ready to hire anyone, run these yourself. This is the same list we would start with for any medical spa.

  1. Build one page per treatment

A services page listing twelve treatments ranks for none of them. Botox gets a page. Weight loss gets a page. Each one answers what patients search: what it costs, how it works, who is doing it. This single change is behind most of the ranking wins we have produced.

  2. Put your provider’s face and credentials everywhere

Patients are choosing a person, not a logo. Name your physician or lead injector on every treatment page with credentials and years of practice. Google’s guidance for health content asks for exactly this, and conversion rates agree.

  3. Treat your Google Business Profile like a second website

Categories, services, photos updated monthly, questions answered, posts for offers. The map results run on this profile, and for “near me” searches the map is the whole game. Ten minutes a week here outperforms most paid social spend.

  4. Ask for reviews at the moment of delight

Not by email three days later. At checkout, when the patient is looking in the mirror. A simple QR card at the front desk plus a same-day text doubles review velocity for most practices we have seen.

  5. Retarget your researchers

Most visitors will not book on the first visit, and that part is normal. What is optional is losing them. A modest retargeting budget keeps your practice in front of people who already read your weight loss page, and it is routinely the cheapest booked appointment in the whole budget.

  6. Answer real questions in your content

Skip “5 benefits of self-care.” Write what your consult room hears: does semaglutide work without dieting, how long does filler last, what does microneedling cost here. Those queries have buyers behind them, and almost no local competition answers them well.

  7. Call your leads back in five minutes

The least glamorous strategy on this list and the most profitable. A lead answered in five minutes books at several times the rate of one answered in five hours. If nobody owns speed-to-lead at your practice, that is the first hire, human or software.

Run all seven consistently and you are ahead of most of your market. The hard part is the consistency, which is roughly why we have a business.

The method

How we run it: Capture, Convert, Compound

Every medical spa engagement follows the same system we built into our software.

  • Capture

Pull your search and traffic data, find where demand already exists, and take the fastest wins first. We start from what your own numbers say rather than from a template plan.

  • Convert

Fix the website, the follow-up and the booking path so the traffic you already have turns into appointments. This is the half most agencies leave to you.

  • Compound

Reinvest in what the data proves, month over month, so this year’s work is still producing next year. Ads alone cannot do that last part, which is why the whole stack matters.

$60KAdded in 30 days

Proof: Lotus MD

Lotus MD, a physician-led medical spa in Roseville, had the most common problem in the industry: 9,711 search impressions in 90 days, 214 clicks, and 97% of those from people who already knew their name. Their highest-demand page sat at position 38. They were being found by patients they already had.

We rebuilt it around the data. In a single 30-day window after that work, Lotus MD booked an additional $60,000 in treatment revenue from patients who found them through search rather than through an ad they were paying for by the click.

Read the case studies

Organic compounds while paid stays flat: the dashed line is what traffic does the day you stop funding it. Shape shown for illustration, the revenue figure is real.

Your first month is free

New clients get the first month of work free: full audit, prioritized plan, first round of implementation. If the work does not convince you, keep it and walk away. We would rather prove it than promise it.

Common questions

Med spa marketing questions, answered

How much should a med spa spend on marketing?
Growing practices typically invest 6 to 10% of revenue, and aggressive growth phases run higher. More useful than the percentage is the unit math: know your cost per booked patient by channel and your average patient value. Once you know a patient costs $80 from organic and $220 from ads, budget decisions make themselves.
What’s the best marketing channel for medical spas?
For consistent new-patient flow, local search, meaning your Google rankings and map presence, because it captures people already looking for treatments. Paid ads scale faster but stop when the spend stops. Social builds brand but books unevenly. The honest answer is a sequence: search first, ads to fill gaps, social for retention and referrals.
Should I hire a medspa marketing agency or do it in-house?
In-house works if someone genuinely owns it with real hours, not the front desk between check-ins. An agency makes sense when you want the full stack without hiring four specialists. The failure mode to avoid is the generalist agency learning your industry on your invoice. Whoever you hire, ask what other med spas they have grown and what changed in the numbers.
How do I market a new med spa with no patients yet?
Start before the doors open: claim and build your Google Business Profile, publish treatment pages, and seed reviews from soft-launch patients. A modest local ads budget covers the gap while organic matures. New practices actually move quickly because there is no bad history to fix.
How long until marketing shows results?
Ads and Google Business Profile work can book patients inside 30 days. SEO shows movement in 30 to 60 days and meaningful volume in three to six months. Anyone quoting faster across the board is measuring something other than booked appointments.
